I didn't know whether this was just a Cakewalk question or related to the 3rd party MP3 converter I use (a quick and nasty freeware number called 'CDex'). Basically my mp3s have a much lower db level than other songs in my mp3 library, like those ripped from real alubms, or mp3s from the Mixing Clinic.

I am forced to use a 3rd party wav-mp3 converter because Sonar doesn't support 24bit mp3 conversion.

Is this problem circumvented by using a better mp3 conversion program?

Hey man,
Try this one......
it's free and easy to use.....
DB Power Amp Music Converter

It allows you to select the quality setting that you want....
it is also really good for audio file conversions... (.CDA .MP3 .WAV )

I have had great luck with it...

Take it easy,
Joe

I don't think the mp3 software is the problem. I've noticed that if you convert a mix that has a lot of peaks and not much compression then you will end up with a pretty quiet MP3. I add a little extra compression or limiting to the master before doing the mp3 conversion and it helps a lot.

mp3 gain converter

I found this free program on cnet one night...
it more or less analyzes the mp3 file and normalizes volume without changing any audio data
you can pick a whole folder to do...
I like it... the guy just wants a donation if you like it
Its called MP3 Gain...
and you can download here

When you mix is your master meter up near 0db?
Hey Porter -

Where is the Master dB meter? When I mixdown it's through the 'Export Audio' command.

(BTW I listened to the duet - Good stuff!)

In SONAR, your Master Bus. Make sure it is sitting up near the 0db... I compressor will allow you to get a hotter signal.

Porter

BTW.... thanks ;)
