Soory, I forgot the comma. I meant to say "I'm an Ass, man."

He's an Ass Man...Duh Duh....

(sorry. long story, but a song is there...)

I must agree with most everybody here. This forum is probably the only one on this board that I really enjoy. I can't stand to hear everyone's condescending rants in every other forum about mics, pre-amps and why everyone is doing everything wrong. This forum is about music, and I listen to pretty much everything that gets posted here, although I don't always comment and perhaps don't even make it all the way through some of the songs. I always pick up something by reading what some more experienced people have to say about the recordings, even if it doesn't resemble anything I would ever do myself. One of my favorite things around here are the "rumbles" although some of you may be right that they should be in another forum.....I don't know about that. It seems proper to me simply because people are on this forum to listen to music instead of talking about lyrics, etc.. such as the songwriting forum. I might add that I am consistently impressed by the talent that hangs around on this board! Thanks to everybody!!!

my stock responce to someone asking me to classify my own music is..

"it's like if tom waits played punk music, only completely different".

the best part is, people always nod like, "oh, well that explanes it"

Ok, why dont all the people that want to post songs for songwriting critique (and jam colaborations) post in the Songwriting part.
and all the folks wanting mixing critique post in the MP3 Mixing clinic.

I mean im gonna start using both anyway as i never knew of the songwriting clinic until like yesterday!

I think this would make more sense.

i'm beginning to think we need a praise foroum.
much love of god in here today.

the jpm count is about to be over my limit.

jpm? count.

jesus per minute, it's an actual christian music industry term, and certian christian lables won't sign you unless your jpm count is high enough.

-not cause they extra love god, because a certian demographic won't buy music with a low jpm count, and they happen to cater to them.

i have some friends that actually have a GOOD christian rock band, and they say the christian music industry is slimey to the extreme.

(i won't name them because of that)

Did you see the South Park episode like that? It was funny, but struck me as very real.....

And I tried to classify one of my songs best I could, so I listened to some music that was catagorized not as just "rock" , that had some similar sounds, and I cam up with Southern Fried/Doom/Stoner/Punk/Garage/Metal.....

It sounded like Lemmy had a head on collision with Ozzy, and Sepultura came to the rescue. And no one surrvived....

The problem with posting in the songwriting forum is that hardly anybody ever goes over there.

So why dont we change it so that more people do go there.
All we need to do is keep encourageing people to use it for the purpose it was meant aswell as the Mixing clinic.
If it was called the MP3 Songwriting clinic, im sure more people would use it.

Good point. To be honest, and I realise this is nobody's fault but mine, I never even visited the "Songwriter's Forum" because I thought it was more about discussing songwriting "techniques" and whether someone's lyirics should be AABA as opposed to Verse/Chorus/Bridge, etc...
Had I known it was about putting up MP3's and getting advice and comments on song structure, the strenght of hooks, etc...I might have gone there to listen and post something. I come here because the thing I need the most help with is the "sound" and production of my songs, but I would also love to get advice and comments on the "song" regardless of how it sounds sometimes.

One thing is for certain: anyway it is organized, someone will not be happy with it. Maybe genres is the wrong way. 'Approach' could be better, maybe? Like: song comments, sound comments, rumbles and contests.

I dunno.

Well I think we should each have own own forum.

I would only allow 10 ppl at a time to listen to my music and I would charge a (fair) ticket price.

I think the *First Song Ever Recorded*, and *The JamThread* should both be made into stickies, somewhere.

The First Song Ever Recorded would make sense to be in the mixing clinic.
The Jam thread however, is sort of floating.

It would seem to me that songwriting is more about the lyrics, structure, and flow, before music has been interwoven in it.
I think if there is music set to it, it makes more sense in mixing clinic.

You do know, it probably does not matter anyway. No one whom has the power to do anything, is not actually listening to us anyway. So lets make the best of it, by just continuing to enjoy the sounds, and each others help.

One reason I posted the Jam thread, was so people could post their music in a relaxed thread, but also to get some comments, if they wished..

I am babbling again. Whatever you dudes want to do is fine with me. I can spank wherever we go!!! :D

I used to be very afraid to comment. I would listen, but never put in my 2 cents worth at the risk of sounding dumb. But now I venture to comment, and have proved my fears several times to be correct!! :D

i can relate to that for sure.
(i know im a stranger joining in on this conversation)
I don't think theres been a song posted in the last month I haven't took the time to listen too. I just have a feeling theres alot of people out there that aren't posting like me. I am going to try and be more active, but sometimes I have to wonder if my advice is really needed or even correct. Its also very possible that im just extremely lazy. Even with no changes like people have mentioned i think bumping your own thread is more than reasonable. Anyway im sure ill be around alot more. Work is real boring and as mentioned before im real lazy. Hope to run into some of you guys on here, take care..

Hey Gary, welcome to the clinic. I think it's a good thing when someone listens and says what they think regardless of whether anybody else is hearing it the same way or not. For myself I can say that when I post tunes I appreciate the intent as much as the exact content of replies.
