I'm curious ...
How does MP3 bitrate correspond to sampling frequency? is a 128kbps mp3 comparable to, say, an 8-bit 32khz wav file? or something else? When you move down in bitrate, what aspects are compromised?
Obviously there are a number of processes that go on to decrease filesize, otherwise we might as well use low-quality WAV files. Some encoders roll off highs or lows, etc. But I can definitely hear a difference in clarity between recordings at 128kbps and 256kbps, and I was wondering exactly what it was that I was hearing.
Anyone care to enlighten me?
