I have three 4x8 sheets of acoustic foam to mount in a good size new room in my new home. How should I attach it to the ceiling and what size pieces should I cut out. I had the full sheets on a ceiling in a ground floor apartment before this to keep the tennents from losing it, but now I just want it for reflection purposesto make a good recording and optimize the monitors. Not a clue really on how to do this, just looking into it Can anybody offer me some advice?

I use cheap 1/4" hardboard ($10 for a 4'x8' sheet) cut into 20"x45" pieces. (each one holds eight 1' squares of foam)

The hardboard can be mounted with just two regular 1/4" picture screws with plastic wall anchors.
The panels can be easily removed for painting the wall or patched when moving.

Best glue I've found for foam can be found in any sewing/crafts store:
Arlene's FOAMTASTIC (about $4/bottle)
It's like white glue but dries rubbery and clear. You don't need much on each square; just a little squiggle will do. My foam has been up for over 2 years with NO dropped squares.

Stay away from the foam. What you want is rigid fiberglass.
