I just started trying motu's cuemix for monitoring via computer. It seems very stupid in its design that there is no way to lable tracks in cuemix ..or am I missing something?

I just use it for real time monitoring of the 8 analog gozintas/gozoutas. I don't do any actual "mixing" with CueMix. You'd do that either with whatever software multitracker you're using or as in my case, on the console.

Yup, nearly every sequencer can rename your input/output tracks.
The only time you need to use Cuemix is to set up external monitoring busses.
Making it do anymore would only confuse people worse.
