motu 8 pre getting closer...

After a couple of days of trouble shooting, I finally got the drivers installed
on my 8 pre for XP. Each channel on the interface detects a mic signal except #2 ( this must have been used but GC sold it new ahahah) I am using REAPER, and it recognizes it under device settings (IN: analog 1 through 8), but when I arm a track to record it does not sense a signal. I am sure I am forgetting something, but getting weary at this point.

Let me know if any ideas come to mind.

pad switch maybe? you tried the same mic and cable that was working on number 3?

I tried your tips with no luck, so I took the MOTU back and ended up trying
an M Audio Fast Track Ultra. Although the manual says it is not supported on
XP Media Center Edition...it's working fine with REAPER after following general PC setup guidelines for working with audio. Audio Interfaces never seem to be a one size shoe fits all kind of thing, at least in my experience.
