MOTIF 8 question

Folks,
I have been trying to follow the Power user tutorial -MASTER CLASS SESSION: RESAMPLING(Behind the manual support). I am stuck on page 10. On the first column/second paragraph it says "go ahead and lay down a drum groove..."
How can I lay this by automatically playing one of the presets for drums? Ofcourse i dont want to use my fingers to drum the keys...

I only know how to do it in pattern mode, go to the "patch" button, I think it's F4. You can then select a preset patch on any channels you wish. You first select "pre" in the left column, then select any number pattern from the right. Then you will go to "Voice" and select whatever voice you want to play that pattern, in your case, a drum voice.

Why wouldn't you just play in a pattern with your keys? Surely you don't intend to resample the factory drum beats?

THanks. I had already had made progress on it. I was simply following the tutorial.
