Hey guys,

Do you notice that there is a lot more treble in "real" music?

I recorded my acoustic guitar through a condenser mic yesterday. Good clean recording, good level.

Now, my acoustic has a fairly bright sound compared to other guitars but compared to most professional recordings is has no where near the same amount of treble. To match it, I'd have to apply heaps of EQ at the top end.

Is this normal? Is this something they do during the mastering process?

mic placement, preamps, strings, picks, the guitar, the place. It also depends on the recording im sure you can find a guitar with kess high end too.

Maybe you are confusing treble in HQ commercial recordings with articulate clarity...?

If your recording digital, either something is wrong, or your using a terrible sound card, if anything the highs are more pronounced with digital compared to the days when you boosted the highs because of tape.

What is your font end?

It all depends on who/how it was recorded or what kind of stereo your listening through. An early bit of recording advice that I got many moons ago, was when you finish mixing play the recording through several different types of stereos. Whether this be car, home, computer, Ipod, or head phones. Well the Idea is to get your recording to sound balanced on various types of platforms.
