more than one track at a time?

i just wanted to know if anyone could help me out. i have the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card, and i'm trying to get CEP to record more than one track at a time.

i have tried to set the recording properties for tracks 1 and 2 to record from diffrent line ins, but there is no options to do so. the only options that it gives me is the one for my sound card and the one for the windows wave mapper. i've tried using each of these and even alternating them between tracks 1 and 2 to no evail. only track 1 will record. i can hear both guitars coming through my speakers, but track 2 records what track one is recording. when i go to the creative sound mixer there only options to record from line 1 or line 2 or line 3 and so on. the specs on the Platinum Pro say it can record up to 6 tracks simultaneously, but i don't know how to do this.

can anyone help me with this problem?
 
Go to the little button that's labeled 'REC 1'.

Set Track1 to record the left, track 2 the right.

i have tried that to but it still records just one line in on both tracks but they are both in mono form. for example; my guitar is getting recorded, but my friends isn't. my guitar is being recorded in both track 1 and 2. his guitar isn't getting recorded at all. my guitar is plugged into line 1 and his in line 2. could there be someting wrong with my card? should i try to find a newer driver for my Audigy2 ZS platinum pro? what gives?

I'm gonna guess that your soundcard can only send in from one of it's line inputs at a time, in other words, get a 1/8" stereo adaptor, and route BOTH of your signals into just one of the blaster's line inputs, the line inputs are stereo, then in the blaster's mixer, make sure you have the proper line in selected as your recording source, then in CEP you can select track 1 left, and track 2 right.

You need to spend a little time figuring out how to route/monitor using the soundblaster's mixer, make sure that "what you hear" or "wave out" is not selected as a recording source unless you want to blend all audible signals onto a single track.
 
thanks for the advice strryder. as soon as i can get to radio shack, i'll try that. but in the mean time here is one more question. that would work to let me record 2 tracks at the same time, but is there a way that i could record three or four tracks for something like drums? i hate to sound like i want more than i can get, but i bought this card because of the six track simultaneously thing.....
 
Have you tried going to the device order settings in the options menu. Make sure you have enabled all the inputs both in and out in this menu.

Okay, after a quick look at the soundblaster website, it seems that they do claim the ability to record 6 seperate tracks at once, but I think that it would require the use of their ASIO driver, and CEP doesn't support the use of ASIO drivers..

If this is true, you could always get Cakewalk Home Studio 2004, (about 80 bucks), the XL version has better effects like compressors/gates, and limiters, (and goes for about 150 bucks), and use that for tracking, I'm pretty sure that HS2004 supports ASIO now, then you could import your waves into CEP for editing/mixing.

I use Sonar 2.2XL for tracking/mixing, and access CEP right in Sonar's "tools" menu for detailed editing of individual tracks, HS2004 is sooooooooo close to being what Sonar 2.2 is that it's not even funny, anyway, here's some info from the soundblaster website..


The ASIO driver in the Sound Blaster Audigy and Audigy 2 series lets you take advantage of that fact by allowing you to record from multiple sources simultaneously on separate tracks.


6-CHANNEL, DVD-QUALITY RECORDING
Also exclusive to the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 is the play back and recording of up to 6 audio streams at resolutions of 24-bit/96kHz*.


*Please note that 6.1/7.1 recording using ASIO is at 16-bit/48kHz only.

well strryder, you are right as rain. my sound card came with a very complicated looking set of programs called Cubasis VST 4, and Wave Lab Lite. After about 9 hours of trying to figure it all out, i found that after a trip to radio shack to buy a bunch of adaptors i was able to record 6 tracks at the same time. i just won't be able to figure out this program as quickly as i did CEP. i don't like Cubasis in the least i can tell you that much right now. but maybe in a year or two i can figure the thing out so i can save each track seperate from the others in wave format.

one question though.... would adobe audition be able to recognize my asio? i will keep an eye out for an asio patch update for CEP for sure.

You could do your tracking in Cubasis, then import all the wave files for that song into CEP and do all your editing/mixing in there.

If you want some help doing that just give a shout, I'll walk you through it.
 
I used to have a SB Audigy 2 Platinum eX that came with Cubasis. Really its a great program after you get to know it. There's a tutorial under Help that'll get you off the ground with it and make your life easier :) I agree that it's very difficult to learn without the tutorial.
