You guys ever record with 2 mics for vocals and blend em? I do it sometimes with guitars...but vocals?

Somepeople like to mic the back of the guitar cabinet with an additional mic. I like to mic the back of my head. It sounds great on vocals. IF you can find a miniature mic use that also and try putting it in your mouth

Sure Robert, try some experiments with it.
Just be careful to keep them far enough apart to avoid phase issues.
Steve Tyler is typically miked by a SM57 and a Sennheiser shotgun
condenser microphone, for example.
Also Colin Hay (Men At Work), was miked with a Neumann U89 and a AKG 414 on all their hits.
So it can be done...

It would have been more accurate if I said be careful with the placement. This can vary greatly due to the polar pattern, sensitivity of the microphone, are they different models/makes, etc.

I read an article about David Bowie using one up close mic and then placing a mic far away with a gate on it set so it would only open when he sang very loud.
I guess this gave some sort of weird doubling reverby kinda thing on the loud sections.

Yes, I have heard of David Bowie using this technique. The far mic was gated and the near mic was compressed so when he got really loud the near mic would shut down and have no distortion but the far mic would have opened up so that the net sound would still be louder and there would be a natural reverb effect. I think I heard that the second mic was something like 15 feet away. If you were going to do this it would take a lot of testing to not have a peak in the sound.

Actually, taking the risk of a slam:
I mic my vocals with two mics positioned 6" from each other. I record into two tracks. This gives me the ability to naturally pan my vocals to the left or right by movement. I usually use this on backup vocals where I may want the presence coming from a different angle. A little freaky, but fun.
Also Harmonica in the same fashion.

i used two mics on the my last post in the mp3 clinic for the background vocals. I sang four parts and stood in four different positions to try and create the image of the erichenryus boys choir. I don't think it really worked out but it was fun imagining four of myself singing at the same time......I kept getting in fights with myself though.

I've been prostituting myself around just about everywhere (PSW, Gearslutz, rec.org, HRC, the FE, and of course, the RAW
) since it went bad at the recweb. But everything seems sooo slow now
