More Stupidity

Well, first off......ummmm. Huh.
Very entertaining. As a matter of fact, I think what I like best about it is the fact that it was obviously written with the sole intention of having fun and enjoying music for the sake of music. Too often I find myself getting frustrated while trying to program a drum machine, or edit a wave or whatever, and it strikes me that the more I work, the less fun I have. This song has Dutch people in it.

Mark, remember that Dutch people are human beings too. We have to treat them as such. Although they don't look or act like regular people, they eat a lot of the same food, and share similar mating rituals.

Alright, I gotta get to bed before someone punches me in the face.

i love the singer's voice on this song... and the melody on the shoe line... that was nice...
the drums are the only thing that sound funky to me... just like everyone else said... but this is definitely a catchy song... i love catchy songs. :)

yeah but no one mentioned the 't' word..

Hey, I did, in my first post in this thread!

Here comes the excuse: the original drums were still on the track I received from 3M, so it was hard to hear afterwards what I played totally wrong. Just when soloing it with the clicktrack I heard some. Whatever, I know it sucks :D.

:)

And I still maintain that the Dutch are human beings too, even after only 4 hours of sleep.

The rhythm guitar sounds like it's in triplets and the drumbeat a straight beat. Kinda weird. Maybe it's just loose. Hey, this is REALLY not my kind of music. It reminds me of those old Beach Boys type of songs (and trust me, I don't know anything from Beach Boys so you can forget that comment :D ).

The mix is decent. The rhythm guitar sounds overpowering. The drums are panned weird but it doesn't bother my that much. Kinda like in the old days, eh. You know, I sometimes get the urge to do similar songs just for fun. Trying to write a good pop song isn't easy, they say.

I didn't listen to the lyrics until I heard something about BBS, and .. hmm :D maybe I should pay more attention to lyrics.

Ok, it's a stupid song but it sounded refreshing to me. :)

Yeah that straight hihatline when the guitar is playing triplet-like stuff is strange indeed, but the original drumcomputertrack had it too, so I got used to it and copied it. And now I even sort of like it.

I've already told you I really like this 3M-so I'll get right to the new version-The drums have timing issues-there I said it. They're also very close to the original pattern which I thought was kinda wierd, the kick drum is kinda lost too. The opening drum fill starts the song on a bit of a sour note to me. The bass sounds decent and the playing is appropriate-maybe a bit more of it? Or a bit less of the rhythym guit? Beats me....Depending on how the drums were recorded you might be able to do a little fixing(nudging)-Latency certainly has an effect when multi-micing a drum kit....

Sorry to be Johnny Negative-just trying to stay honest-I really like the song-(as I like All your songs) and this is definetely an improvement. It sounds more like a real band.

Toki - very nice words. I (we) appreciate it.

SAB - as long as you're constructive there's no need to apologise. There were some small timing issues. F_cksia mentioned it to me before he even delivered the track. I thought they were pretty minor and I don't want to bug people endlessly to re-do their parts. He, I thought, captured the spirit of the song perfectly. BTW - he did a jam over Spider-Man that was totally different from this and it was perfect for THAT song. And it totally blew me away. He's very good at adjusting his style to fit a particular piece of music. The panning is totally my fault. I have his original track still archived in the project. It'd take me 30 seconds to put it back (45 minutes to re-upload it). Personally I thought the bass was in tune with the rest of the tracks.

SLuiCe - luckily, I'm tracking with peaks above -12. I just couldn't bring myself to peak right at -12. So I think I'm doing things your way. Whether or not it works for me is yet to be decided. Your joke about Dutch people was hilarious. And - point taken on songwriting and listening preferences.

erichenryus - thanks for listening as always. I think the problems you hear with the drums were because of me.

mbuster - you've summed up the spirit of the song probably better than I could have expressed. And I hate programming drum tracks too. And yes, 66.7% of the people who contributed to this song are Dutch.

dctalkdotsomethingorother :D - the singer's voice belongs to me. So thanks. I appreciate you listening. I promise I will never stereo-widen drums again. I feel like I need to enter a 12-step program about Ozone. "Hi, I'm TripleM and I'm an Ozone plugin addict..." Crowd: "Hi Trip..." and so on.

Ped - we do not eat Tulips. Pork rinds? Yes. But not Tulips.

CrankyOne - it's definitely not your kind of song. But I appreciate your listening.

F_cksia - if we ever collab in the future, don't take my drum programming as any kind of guide. Because it's crap. I'd trust your instincts in that area over mine any day.

Thanks all.

Hey Strato... you snuck in when I wasn't looking.

Boy most people are bothered more by timing issues than I am. I still think that F_cksia caught the spirit of the song just as I wanted it. He can drum for whenever he wants to as far as I'm concerned.

I goofed up with the stereo widening. SLuiCe seems to think it's possible that it might make the timing things more pronounced. We can always check.

Glad you liked the song though.

Trip,
I have been meaning to comment on this after I listened to the re-do/re-mix yesterday.

First, I really like your wryness, on this song and many of yours. That kind humor is right up my alley. You have great style.

I thought the addition of Ped's bass and F_cksia's drums were great in terms of sounds. The drum timing issues were there but they did not overwhelm things. It would just need a re-track. I also did not mind the drum mix as it fit the "old" style.

I was most concerned with the midrange sound. It might just be the guitars being too loud. It just seems that you went from a mix with too many highs (from what I remember), and now it seems some mid to low cuts need to happen.

I really enjoyed this and would love to hear an SLuiCe or someone try to take a crack at the mix with raw tracks. I would like hear this song the best it can be. Maybe it needs a re-track, but I think some EQ and volume adjustments could go a long way.

Loved the vocals, like before. They just seemed more buried this time, although I heard the words fine. Hope that makes sense.

Enough rambling. Great song with great writing, especially for a stupid song. ;) :)

I'm a bit late on this one but I'll chime in anyway 'cause I like 3M's stuff.

Actually not too thrilled with this one, seems a bit too cheery. I get the joke but I don't know, maybe I'll get drunk and listen to it again. :)

Hey Trip,
.....happy, fun toon man. i liked it the first time it was posted too. You know about the timing issues w/ the drums, so i wont go there. On my listening source here at work the bass tone and rhythm guits seemed to wash together a bit too much. I dont get a very good stereo representation here, so that might be my fault, but i though i would throw it out there to see if anyone else heard that. Nice collab fellas! ....and nicely written song trip. I always love your vocs.

This thing's still around? You guys need to get a life. hehehe

Skids - thanks for the comments. I hope I can collab with the guys again. I still think F_cksia is a real good drummer, and I didn't get too hung up on timing things. I see that others pay more attention to it. Maybe next time we'll be a bit more self-critical and it'll turn out a little better.

lynx - please get drunk and listen again :D. Naw, I appreciate you being honest. That way when you say you like something I'll know you're truthful.

Gman - hope fatherhood is treating you well. Thanks for getting to this. You were the only one to mention the bass and rhy guits washing together. I didn't get that feel, but I don't care too much for the rhy tone anyway. If I had a nice acoustic guitar, I'd pull this one out in a few months and retrack that part.

Anyway, thanks everyone...

Stupid song.Trip you got great lyrics and a great voice.Everyone seems to forget...IT'S JUST A STUPID SONG!I liked it aside from the timing/tuning issues previously stated. You make me smile...but not in a gay way. ;)
