more questions and not enough answers

hey everybody,

I was wondering if I needed anything else to record digitally on a four track recorder other than a soundcard. Is there anything else that I obviously don't know about that I could possibly need? All help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks
 
im not getting what you want to do.......


are you wanting to record to the 4 track (cassette?) and transfer it to the computer?

Why don't you start by telling us what you already have in terms of gear and what you intend to achieve in terms of recording? :)

Generally, a "four track" is a generally known as a self-contained unit that records on a cassette. You don't need a soundcard for that and you can't record digitally on it. I'm not sure that's what you mean, though.

To record digitally, you will either need a digital recorder or a computer.
 
I have access to a computer. It is a Pentium something. I don't really know what I want to do because I have a limited budget (currently relying on the holiday spirit of others) and I don't really know what it takes to record stuff. So I think it would be helpful if someone would just explain the difference between recording with my computer and on a cassette. I want to be able to make better quality recordings of my music. (just vocals and guitar right now) I don't really know what I want to achieve, but I think that if I knew the potentials of each way of recording, then I would better know where I was going with this.

so basically, I want to record digitally, but I need a simple way of doing it, if such a thing exists and if not then I what are my other options? Every response is appreciated. Thanks.
