This is why I am 100% happy with my recent banjo purchase and can't wait to get a little bit of that "Scruggs" dexterity.

you guys outta invite some people over to these do-ins"!!

open invite, every Wed. nite 7:00pm until...........................................................................................................................................................................................................

What kind of banjo you got dude? Mines and old (late 80s) Sigma. I traded a dirt bike for it. My main problem is I have what they call "loose" or "wild" thumb. Not even close to Mr. Scruggs' style, a little more like Jerry Garcia style.

I got a Deering "goodtime special" ..which has a resonator and tone ring. Gtr tuners VS banjo planatery tuners, no fancy inlay, blond finish, etc. Very non-traditional, from what I gather, but is compared to a "big baby taylor" in that it is a very well made American instrument that cut corners in the cosmetic and flash departments to come up with a good starter instrument. I paid $430 new for it without a case ($50 at my local dealer for a decent harshell)

It is also fairly lightweight as compared to a Deering Sierra or Boson, but many "good" pickers say that I did the right thing in getting the Goodtime, because {if and } when I upgrade, I'll probably want to keep the Goodtime as a travel/knockaround instrument because it plays so well as compared to some of the 'good stuff'.

I'm stoked...that's all I can say!!

great looking banjer, thar, mix. this damn Sigma has to be 1000 lbs. he he he he he. Very heavy. I'm glad I don't play banjo as my main axe. Deering is a topnotch banjo company. My pal David has a Stelling Custom Gospel. But a couple years ago he decided to start playing mando so I moved over to guitar from mando, and pick the banjo every now and then on G songs. Did that sound right? Nice banjo fellow. Pick on. I've tried twice now to put up another tune but NWR is acting up a little. I'll try again.

fun listen here......i enjoyed the listen.......and am taking notes on the mix:D

Hey DTB -- Always enjoy your stuff. Bluegrass rules. One day I'll need to post some of my Grandpa's old stuff for ya'

:)

hey powderfinger, I panned the two v67 mics about 75% left and right. didn't use the third mic on this nite. I think I fried one of my pres. but that's another story. thanks dude.

boydrj, thanks man, and I would love to hear your grandpa's stuff.

yeah.,..banjos aren't normal instruments. I hear they can be pretty mean on your regular equipment if you're not careful. I've even heard of banjos spitting at you all the way across stage, just to make you stop playing "Smoke on the Water" licks on your acoustic gtr!!!

I love Bluegrass! Very cool sound! I'm only hearing the vocals/harmony out of one side of my headphones, was this intentional? (....yep, headphones work!) LOL

If you need a "foghorn" kinda harmony singer for any of your songs, just PM me and I'll send you my homepage with stuff! :)

Hi Prozkgrl, well as usual, thru out the evening we seem to move around listening to each other pick. and depending on the tune, it will come out this way. It's not like I try and record this stuff for any special reason, other than our own enjoyment. but this is how we hear it live. and yes, we need all the help we can get.

Thanks for the listen.

Sounds like you guys are havin a party over there! I got a mandolin recently, so I'm listening to more stuf like this lately. It's a refreshing change and it's got me practicing more. But that damn neck is sooooooo small!

Twist

twist and SHOUT, what kind of mando did you get? And yes, going from guitars to mando does make the neck seem small. A few years ago I reversed the effect, going from mando full time, back to guitar. Same thing. The guitar neck was so wide. Took me months to get my muscle memory and strength back. So I try and do it all every day. Play guitar, some mando, and been tickling the banjo some. If nothing else it keeps the old hands and fingers in tune.

Party time. Every Wed. nite. Come on by anytime. Thanks for the listen.

Cool stuff Dan,your jams are always a blast!
Some fine pickin going on there!
I heard the young ones running around, sounds like fun.

I caught Turn The Page, missed it last time around.
I can't believe you guys did that Bluegrass, thought I was the only one that played it acoustic!:D

That was too cool,a truly great version, man!
You guys rock!:D

Pete

hey pete, thanks. yea David, who is 53 has an adopted grandson, who just turn 5. He's a blast. some nites he gets his uke and will stand right in the middle of the gang, and just sing his little heart out. but, some nites he's a terror. what can you say, 5 year olds. and "turn the page", we've been doing that tune since it came out, and well, I guess we kinda adopted it.
Thanks for the listen.

Pickn & a Grinnin. Great time. Even the kids got into the act!! Fiddles & the whole 99 yards. Sounds like one enthusiastic fan there at the end. LOL!

Smiles all around. :)

Chad

another few minutes of some good time fun listening. Sounds like you did something different with your mics though, not as much vocal pickup and more side stuff gettin in the mix. Still sounds good boss... :)

Chad, we tend to get a little excited. Coulda been sumpin we drank. Thanks friend.

Toki987, hey man, side stuff happens. Sometimes when we hit that last note I'll look up and all 4,5,6 of us might be all the way under one mic, or off to the side. We tend to forget the mics are there, and that's a good thing. he he he he. Thanks dude.
