Howdy,

I have had this song around awhile, and decided today to record it as an electric guitar and vocal tune. I wrote it on the acoustic and it seemed to lend itself to a simple vocal guitar type of thing. Im not much of a player but I do like the song. Hows it sound to you in this format? Any comments welcome.

Thanks,
Justin

Justin,

Your description of the song was accurate but you left out one thing; You're one hell of a great singer!

That's a nice tune and the simple mix you have of it is very good sounding.

The only thing I'd be very tempted to add is a nice string section to back up and fortify the guitar and overall Melody.

Nice job! :)

Ghost,

Thanks for the compliment on my vocals! Yes a string section would be very cool. Are you volunteering :)

Oh - so - nice!
I see this in the middle of a kick-ass rock band's set - exactly as is. (Colored lights to the side - single spot on you - smoky haze around the stage - and here come the cigarette lighters)

Your voice and vocal delivery really sells this song - the quiet, minimalistic teatment makes ya ponder the lyrics. It's like a conversation or a meditation. Since you asked - I think it's finished. Strings would be fine - but then the medium might overtake the message (apologies to Buck Fuller).

You'll hear this a lot but I have to add to the comment about your voice - you definitiely have a gift worth sharing!

It's in my keeper section - Thanks!!

Great! This is just fine on its own without any other instrumentation.

My one mix comment is that there are parts where it seems that the lower frequencies of your voice and the guitar are kind of occupying the same space. I'd maybe find out what the dominant frequency is in the lower parts of your vocals and cut that a tad on the guitar.

Nice job on this one.

Chris

Sounds nice. A little (more?) compression might help even out the guitar a bit. What kind of rig are you recording/mixing on?

i reallly like this song!

but then you're pushing all my buttons here. simple arrangement, dry vocal, pop structure.

nice singing.

5 stars from me, cause this almost sounds like something i would write :).

edit
.....another 5 stars for writing cause you got to your hook in under a minute!!!

i like the bridge too. man this one is like a gift to drop in the lap of a good producer. you could do a lot with building this. many options. strings, a band, ......um....i don't know what else but you could build this up in standard pop ballad form very easily.

nice work. i'm gonna go learn this now.

Thanks a lot guys.

Tex: I actually didnt use compression on the guitar, I normally do. Ill try it when I get back from LaLa Land tomorrow. Im running a souped up PC with a Delta 1010 (soon to be a Mytek) , decent outboard pres and a small Raindirk sidecar console.

Groucho: I am sure youre right on the shared frquency, compression on the guitar should help.

Thanks again,
Justin

erichenryus,

Thanks for the kind words man. I had a feeling you might like this. I may have to learn "Not Alone". What mic do you use on your acoustic?

Thanks,
Justin

I use two Studio Projects B1 mics. I really like them, but I haven't tried much else though.

Not my style of music, but I have to agree with other posts on how compelling your voice is. I'd love to hear you sing something with a full band behind you. That song would be even more tear-jerking with a soft piano part in the background. Do you play piano? Oh, well, just my two coins.

I'm most envious of how you got your mp3 so much louder than mine while keeping it clean and distortion-free. What's your secret?

Piltdownman,

Thanks for the nice comments. My voice compelling? Thats funny to me. I do play piano a bit but I suck. Want to give it a shot? I could dig some piano on this too. My MP3 is loud because I master my Wav files loud (too loud actaully. I use Audioactive to encode, and it sounds better than any encoder that I have heard.

Thanks again,
Justin
