i do love smilies...
hey,
www.myspace.com/montycasino

i recorded this band about two weeks ago. they're all 14 or 15 years old (i'm 17.) we spent about 6 hours recording, and got four tracks down - the myspace page there has two of them...

:p they ended up getting the bus to my house, so couldn't bring the wonderful Marshall valve cabinets or their huge Laney bass amps like they'd promised me - all the bass and guitar was done through small marshall or laney practise amps.

i don't know if you've heard of the 'Libertines' - if you have, thats the kind of sound they were going after, especially on 'Caroline'. basically, they wanted it as raw and unprocessed sounding as possible. which wasn't hard, to say we had an hour a song and little practise amps to work with :p.

well, tell me what you think!

thanks,

Andy

hi there..Well, if "unprocessed" is what you were going for, I'd say you got it, lol.

Still, I think you could do a LOT better with the drums. It sounds like you basically had a kick mic and maybe a room mic for the entirety of the rest of the kit. The snare should be kinda' louder, even if it sounds all roomy and "natural."

:) thanks for that. i did have a snare mic and an overhead... i recorded the guitar and drums together in the same room, which meant there was quite a lot of bleed, and meant that it was quite a lot harder to get a specific sound to the recording.

next time we have a go i'm going to try and get a much more sophisticated headphone monitoring thing going, so i can have the musicians in the same room, but the amps in other parts of the house, or even just outside the door maybe, to try and make sure its easier to mix.

thanks again,

anyone else got anything to say?

Andy
