yes
so yeah, about a year and a half ago i got 2 monster cables, thinking that its worth it because they will always be replaced no matter what.

well, evidently about a year ago, they changed their policy, and they no longer cover broken ends, because thats considered abuse? its such bullshit, i spent 100 bucks on 2 cables and now ones gone.

always out to screw the little man

I found a broken one and they replaced it, not two months ago.....

Buy a new Neutrik end for like $2 and solder that sumbitch on.

Not that I ever bought more than one of their snake-oil cables anyway... and that was one too many...

Amen. To buy one of their $50+ digital cables is also retarded. As soon as the common 'joe' realises how digital really works, companies like this will go out of business.

And I for one can't wait.

Amen to that. The latest issue of GP has a "review" of cables, with solemn remarks about differences in sound and whatnot, which is not worthy of a national publication; but the part that got me was the chart which, among other things, noted whether a cable was "directional" or not!

Oh my aching head! When did a length of metal wire with a shield around it become "directional?" Are they that damn stupid, or are they just parroting the ad copy?

Now, there is a type of single conductor shielded cable that is directional, in a sense: that's one that has the shield not attached at one end ("telescoped"), to alleviate hum in poorly grounded gear. But that's not directional: it just means that you have to hook it up the right way to, in order for the strategy to work.

Disclaimer: I own a Monster cable. It's beautifully made, with translucent pink wrapping and lovely woven copper shielding.

And it sounds EXACTLY like my Radio Shack specials I soldered up myself.

How could it be otherwise? Instrument cables are one of the simplest, and best-understood, of all the many ways you can hook up one piece of gear to another. Anything you hear is colored by the $$$ you wasted on an expensive one. Lesson: there is always a market for pixie dust.

We would all do well to understand that a review in a magazine, and in a catalog from a retailer, is paid for by the manufacture of the reviewed product. When is the last time you seen a review slam a piece of gear? I love those "hands on" things in the MF catalog....

Yeah, that's true. I probably over-react, because whenever someone tries to convince me of these delusions I feel like either a) they are cynically lying to me to make an inflated profit or b) they mistake me for being the same sort of fool they are. =sigh-

This isn't exactly true, as not all manufacturers who have items reviewed in magazines actually advertise in that magazine.

However, as one that reviews equipment for a guitar magazine, I'm encouraged to "treat everyone as a potentional advertiser."

So ... yes ... unfortunately, you need to take reviews with a grain of salt. Unless it's in something like Consumer Reports, where you'll see things get slammed all the time. Consequently, I don't think they have advertisers in that magazine/catalog, do they?

Consumer Reports does not accept advertising.

in the UK they're starting to go after audiofool co's and the unsubstatiated claims... Kimber was recently told to change the advertising for that high-end power cable because they couldnt prove ANY benefit.... wonder if we'll ever get to that point...

Thats interesting? Have you got a link or similar. I'd like to read up on that.
