I see deaf people
did a remix of a tune I did with Joey over a year ago...Brad added a some rock in the break (thanks man)

its more dub/rock than the techno/rock original, I dropped all the synths, beat, and Joeys verse guitar (sorry mate ;) ) and added more skank and a sloppy beat, rearranged it a bit too

is it too plodding? Im guessing the mix is a little HF heavy...my ears need it to be, I can sort that out if the remix is worth mastering

thanks for any listens and comments

EDIT: gave it another 5bpm and tamed some of the HF's...I think it makes it less plodding though not sure if it clears up the last chorus...but its only 8.50am here so plenty of time to fix it lol

Sounds cool. How did I miss this before? It's a little wispy in the upper range, but just barely. This shit is demented. :D

Thanks buddy...yeah after getting Jans master Im noticing all my mixes are too HF heavy...but my ears are full of wax, my heads full of shit, and my belly's full of beer :D

you did hear it before mate, it just sounded totally different I think

hope youre well mate and got over your football ;)

Ugh, that was the worst week ever for football for me. First LSU gets raped in the national championship, then my Saints shit their pants against the 49'ers. Shit fuck shit. That was bad.

shit dude...when I saw them I rooted for them...that may have been their downfall...sorry :D

Wow. This is demented.

Where's that clip at the beginning from? It sounds familiar...there was this old godzilla movie with a monster theme park for kids...

It's cool when Joey's metal vocals (chorus?) kind of kick in out of nowhere, It's somewhat unexpected each time even though I know it's coming. The verses reminded me of NIN a little with Joey's voice all mutated and far away sounding like that. I think the production is great. No issues. I guess I prefer your slightly less demented, more accessible electronic stuff, but this is cool.

Are you going to get a CD together at some point? You certainly have enough material. I'd love to hear some of this stuff on my stereo, but don't get the dropbox download dealio. It seems to require QuickTime Pro...??

the beginning clip's from a childrens record called "Happy Monsters"

R-150-1149580-1291145157.webp

Joey wrote the lyrics and melody just from that clip...it kinda worked as a techno rock thing but no matter what I did the mix was shit and it ended up shelved...this is much better I think, kinda disjointed but thats more to do with my skills than the tune

Ive spotted a couple of bits to tighten up, some panning, the guitar level and the bass drop clouding Joeys first word in the choruses but Ill sort them tomorrow

glad you like it..Im never sure, especially when they plod a bit and the beats pretty simple...I might give this an extra 5bpm and see if it sounds better

Thanks for listening mate

Oh and album out in a month or two..gonna get a pro job done on it hopefully, still shy a couple of tunes but Im working on them now :)

You stuff is always full of lots of cool patches and patterns that keep my ADD at bay (lol) . The effected vocals and echos are really well done. And Joe's vocals are spot on as always. This is really creative and cool - I'm always impressed with your material. Oh yeah the mix :) ....no problems for me everything is pretty evenly levelled and easy to enjoy..... Listening on my AKG headphones it does not sound too HF but then I hear you start losing it as you age...lol :D:D:D:D

tell me about it...everything is starting to sound like its in a cardboard box to me...hardly worth me spending anything on room treatment with my ears...last week I poked a cotton bud in and it met no resistance :)

thanks for the nice comments Gerry....I have a love/hate relationship with electronic music, I love the repetitive, minimal stuff I sometimes listen to, but I hate making it, its too difficult...I like to hope that I'll make young music for older people eventually :D

Thanks for letting me have a part in your twisted-ness brutha! It was a challenge to keep myself from spewing heavy metal licks all over your masterpiece though. I think the lead sits in the mix well.....did you add a little crispiness (highs) to it on eq or is that just me? Nevertheless, I like it. The whole tune sounds great man. I love the range, with the keys swelling into the low end and floating on the high end - it's fun to listen to. Did Joe originally sing the verses, uhhh, more normal and not so spread out? It doesn't even sound like him till the chorus. I'm really liking it though - it challenges my perception of normal :);). I'd like to hear more of Joe's yell at 3:11 though - I want him to scare me...like a monstAr!...Grrr!.....

Now, about the 'plodding' you talked about. The tempo does not bother me, it has a good groove to it, until it gets to the last chorus (after 3:12). There you got the drums going with the chorus for the first time, adding umph, which is always a good arrangement idea. But here is where it feels plodding, like the 49ers in that overtime, not going very far or hitting very hard. Do you think it needs a 16 note pulse in there? It seems like it's almost there with those low sounds swelling and panning under there...maybe have them more rhythmic or gated to provide a more driving, aggressive, pulse. Just my 2 bits, which is worth about .5 bit, with my ears fairly dormant lately. :D

Hey Brad...thanks for the notes and listen, and for your "rock"! :)

I did give your guit a wee boost, and made the second track quiet distant...I think it works well...I spaced Joeys vocals out more but the FX (and talent) are all his...I need to address a couple of spots in the choruses

Ive heard a couple of things I want to adjust while at the gym, my trusty mp3 player always helps me spot things....I think Im going to speed the whole track up rather than add anything else...maybe 5bpm, as long as it doesnt effect the vocals..
I totly agree with what your saying...but I tried some beat repeats in the final choruses and it didnt work and adding some percussion may be cheesy, the snare needs a bit more definition, maybe adding some delayed snare beats will fill the void??..Ill experiment

thanks again mate

This is what I always say, you always change it up at the right times. I can hear the HF thing, but It's hardly noticeable and I doubt I would have picked it up if I hadn't read about it before listening. It sounds like dark reggae at some parts, but I'm still not sure why everyone thinks it's so demented. The vocals gel very nicely with the song. Overall, very solid job.

I do like the metal lyrics out of nowhere. That's an interesting contrast you don't hear in a lot of electronica.

It does plod a bit. I'd like to hear it with that tempo boost you mentioned.

thanks mate...i just try to change it when I get bored, and as an average listener I hope its at the right time....

Joeys vocals never cease to amaze me...this wasnt even the wave file just the mp3 he sent as a test...it was perfect

glad you like it, I hope to improve on it with some tweaks

thanks Steve....in the techno rock version you didnt really notice them...but with the skank and trip hop beat they really stand out more

I added 5 bpm...its doesnt seem to have effected the pitch much, it shouldnt as Im using super time stretch without effecting pitch technology lol

I think its picked it up to just about the right tempo...maybe even another 1 or 2 bpm would be perfect...dont want to lose the plod to much, Im using an MPC swing to give it that "trip over itself" beat

done a couple of tweaks...just wondering if anyones listened to the new BPM version? I think its sounds "normal" wouldnt mind another set of ears if anyones free

sorry about the bump :o

I just listened, K ... so I'm guessing it's the new version. This is terrific. Joey's contribution is killer.

There is still the slightest hint of bite in the top end -- but it is fine ... and barely noticeable -- you have to listen close to hear the granularity.

You paced this perfectly ... it kept my interest from start to finish.

brilliant, thanks mate...I can hear its slightly faster but only because I heard the slower version so much...Ill tame the HFs, already have a bit, I really have cloth ears :o
