OK, i save room if i only record in one channel

How do I mix, say, vocals, in stereo if it is only recorded in the left channel?

what do you guys do?

A mix, by definition, is more than one track. In other words, you mix the guitar track with the bass track and the drum track and the vocal track. For anything other than very simple recordings (for example, a live vocal/guitar) I record everything in mono, then create stereo when I mix it down. For example, the vocal typically goes to the center, rhythm guitar to one side, lead guitar to the other (subject always to change). There's no reason to record a track that will end up in a larger mix to be recorded in stereo. Not only do you waste hard drive space, but the mix gets muddy pretty quickly. It's not about what one part sounds like, but how it fits into the mix.

i understand this

with this info, the question is, how do you record in mono . . . as in, only one, mono wav file per track?

the best i can do is record only in one side of the stereo and then unless i want it panned hard to one side, i have to copy the left channel to the right channel

any suggestions as to what i might be doing wrong?

to the left of your track is your track properties. you have an In button and an out button just under your "Record" "Solo" and "Mute" buttons. click on the one that says IN. When you do this, you will be given a list of your computers possible inputs. To the right of those inputs, you will see "Left Channel" "Right Channel" or " Stereo". If your wave has been recording on the top, then you will probably need to choose your left channel, if its on the bottom....you guessed it....choose the right channel. Now you should just get one wave form right down the middle of the track.
