Hey i have a fostex mr-8 and crappy monitors. I'll probably be upgrading this recorder for one that can record more tracks at once, but i was wondering what's a good pair of monitors that are in the $250-$300 range. Thanks, jon

 AMS, Full compass, Interstate musician, Rock & Rythm, all are catalogues and on web.

Yo 930 paradiddles:

Go for Yorkville passive monitors. Or, if you want the active, they cost more.

You can tap in Yorkville on the net and find out the nearest dealer in your area.

Someone just mentioned that he got a pair of Yorks on Ebay for 60 dollars -- a great buy -- and they work fine. He loves them.

For the money, hard to beat Yorks.

Green Hornet :D  :p

for low budget active monitors, the m-audio monitors are hard to beat as far as cost / performance.

But if you can squeeze out $400 - $500 Event and Yorkville make great actives.

You can save money getting passive monitors (no amp built in) but... you need a good amp.

If you want actives, just about the only brand in your price range is M-Audio. I have a pair of M-Audio SP5B monitors. I paid $329 for the pair. I do not regret that purchase one bit.
