Monitors?

What do you guys use for Monitors at mix down? I use Event PS5 and am not happpy. What I hear is not what I get. Give me your suggestion for something around $500.00-$600.00.

Yo Aqua-Lung Needed:

You seem to have a "decent" pair of monitors. If what you hear is NOT what you get, there might be a problem in your recording process.

Since no gear is mentioned, not much else can be said except speculation.

If you're doing a stereo track to burn to CD, you might be botching up on your settings. Only a guess.

Thing to do is borrow or rent "better" monitors and try the mix again and see what happens -- if you still get gunk, then it must be something on the gear settings.

What is the actual problem? overall mix,vocals what..
ps5's are decent monitors...
in the $5-600 range.. you have the event TR series and the ps6 and ps8...
you also have M-Audio Studiophile BX8, Roland DS-90A, a pair of Tannoy Reveal's would take you to $700...
where in southest,Ga are you..

I'm in Brunswick, GA. It's the overall mix. I'm a sound consultant and install pro-audio systems in chruch etc. I'm just now getting in to the studio thing at home. I've learn that running a studio is very differant from live sound. In live sound you work around your envionment, but in the studio you try to create one. To me the PS5's sound honky with no life. Is that how studio monitors should sound? I thought about trying a nice pair of bookshelf speakers and a amp so I can get a real picture since that is what I'm us to working with. Anyway, I'll shut-up and let you tell me what I should do.

Yamaha NS10s, theres a reason they are chosen by all the top studios. KRKs are affordable and also better than the events.
 
I suppose you can mix on any decent monitor once you learn them. I'm on my second set of Yorkville YSM-1's. I could afford more expensive units but I've learned these and my room and am having no problems getting my mixes to translate to other systems.
