whats a good monitor? im looking to buy some.
do good monitors have to cost alot? although money is
not an issue....

thanks guys

before you are told impolitley by somebody else, i'll be as polite as i can... there is a search function on this bulletin board, its really useful for general topics like monitors....

try typing in some monitor brand names (one at a time) in the search function (ie: tannoy reveal, behringer truth, jbl lsr, krk, etc.etc.)

good luck with your search... there is a heap of useful info out there, and people on this board are really helpful...its just that they dont like repeating themselves :)

even though you say money is not an issue, how much would you like to pay?....active or passive?.....

btw, last i checked, the search function is not working.....

worked fine for me just now..... i was honestly trying to sound polite when i suggested the search function, sorry if it sounded otherwise

Monitors I like

event 2020
mackie 824s

Ones I dislike KRK, PS5-6, anything with less than 8" woofer.

Ones worth looking at if you are rich: Genelec. I hear these often do not live up to the rep. The Mackies were the best i have heard in a long time and I like my 2020s with a hafler though i wish i had the bas. My next pair will be mackies tho. Peter

Well....

I've heard Genelecs and 824's side by side in the same studio on the same material...

Genelecs win....

(the 824's do sound damn good tho...)

Well, if money isn't an issue....

I can build you a set of tri-amplified near/midfields which will have lower distortion, wider dynamic range and all around higher performance than ANYTHING you can buy.

Estimated cost $6500. :)

Tannoy Reveals
Event 20/20's
JBL LSR25P's

these would be my top 3......

Results of my search...

I had the same question not too long ago. So, I also searched the site for monitor discussions. The bottom line is that everyone has their favorite, but a few kept coming up in my price range.

I bought the Tannoy Reveal Actives, and I am very pleased with the results. Some people criticized the 6.5" woofer, but to my ear the low end is represented very well. Don't be afraid to make your local Sam Ash guy set up every set of monitors for you to audition. It's their freakin' job! Make sure to hump the net for the best price...

thank you for the replys. its nice communicating with people
instead of doing a search
