Monitors to compliment my NS10m

I have been tracking and mixing on my trusty NS10m since 1995. In those 10 years these speakers have done a great job except for one thing: ear fatigue. Its just murder working on these speakers for over a few hours.

I primarily compose on my home studio for persoanl use (no more clients) and also recently upgraded my mic-pres and my converters and am working on a whole new level when it comes to clarity. The NS10m just aren't cutting it as continuous tracking/composing monitors anymore.

What I am looking for is a nice second pair of monitors for use as my primary tracking speakers (to ease off the ear fatigue) and also to let me hear the lowend a bit better with a smooth and easy on the ears sound. An 8" 2-way active would be ideal, and a digital in would be nice also.

Any suggestions for a nice partner to my NS10m? Thanks!

I would check out genelecs. Don't know what your budget is, but they are outstanding monitors. They have nasty low end response too, which is always fun! Of course you can roll off as much as you like if you are more of a flat listener.
 
Dynaudio BM6A. Love them. After a month with them I sold my NS10's.

I kept my NS-10's for so long because of the detail, but the Dynaudio's are even more revealing, no ear fatigue, sound better (so more pleasant to use), and the bass is awesome for the size of speaker.

My mixes have been translating way better since I got them.
 
The ADAM S-series are outstanding.... of course after mixing that long with NS10s, you may have permanently marred your ears from ever hearing well on a GOOD monitor! ;)

ditto for the most part...i don't love em but they do work really well down to a certain point...both have light low end. very nice to listen to, though.

i switched from ns10's to these and have been consistantly happier with my mixes from day one - which i guess is the point.

i'd hold the ns10's for the midrange check...

The low end is lite in the sense that it doesn't thump the room, but plenty to mix with if your room is setup right.
 
i kind of disagree and kind of agree...

disagree: if the lows aren't there - they just aren't there. this is kinda the case with the BM6A's. just the nature of a smaller speaker.

agree: if you can get by with not as much lowend as a bigger speaker offers - sweet. go for it. i need more help down there...

I disagree. The lows are there with the BM6's if placed properly. Adding a sub will make the room shake, but won't make your monitoring anymore accurate
 
what, has this difference in opine happened before? :eek: it's a classic! :D

no room or placement on the planet will turn the bm6a's into full range monitors. again, if you can mix well on em, that's all that matters...so keep on truckin'.
