My keyboard (don't laugh) is a Yamaha PSR-225GM. I'm happy with most of the sounds and am not using it for any serious work. But It sounds better on headphones (I use Grado SR60's) than the built in speakers. Even cheap computer speakers are an improvement over the built ins.

The types of voices I use most often are: Grand Piano, Synth Strings, Mute Trumpet, Jump Brass, Techno Brass, Sitar, Analog Drums Kit, Bandoneon, Rock Organ, Harpsichord, Vibes

For an additional upgrade in the sound:
Ignoring the stereo/mono issue, am I better off going with studio monitors like Yamaha MSP3 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...54293028/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/600848/) or a keyboard amp like Roland KC60 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...75154293028/g=rec/search/detail/base_id/89464)?

The keyboard has a 1/4" TRS line output

thanks

Just depends on useage. I would use the Yamahas, I think that's what they use for the keyboards at the guitar center. Is it for home use? On stage I either use my keyboard amp (Fender KXR) or floor monitor. But that's just me. :)

Yes, for home use and recording

If you keep up with the recording game, eventually you're going to want some dedicated speakers, which most people like to call "studio monitors", for tracking and mixing, etc. You might as well kill two birds with one stone and buy yourself some (or just one, for the time being). Then, you can use them for your keyboard, and scads of other purposes. You'll save money in the long run. If you think the Yamahas will cut it, then by all means. Other models are the Yorkville YSM-1, Behringer Truth, Event 20/20, M-Audio Bx5...

You can search on this site for, literally, 1,000s of posts about "What's the best studio monitor for under $500".

I think a keyboard amp is kind of a wasteful purchase, unless you plan on playing live, and your Yamaha is your only instrument. If you play any sort of venue, you could just use a direct out to their PA.
