ey, I don't think I'm using the "real" monitors I would like to use, my budget only allowed me to grab a set of studiopro 4's from m-audio

How is the Studiopro 4 so far? I'm also thinking of getting one of either that or the DX4 to get me atleast a "not-so-real" monitor. :p

I don't know if I already posted what I use

I use Sony MCR-ND50 headphones for mixing and sometimes an RCA stereo. The stereo is probably a little better than the headphones, but I try to use both to find the best mix.

I'm going to invest in some monitors when the Swans come into stock at NewEgg again.

I use Behringer Truth B2031a's and my ears and mixes love them. I tried the krk RP5's when I was trying out monitors but I went with the truths, they have a much flatter response.

I have a few pairs of speakers I use. Roland DS-90s (they aren't as bad as the reviews made them out to be), Tannoy Reveals and B&W DM601 S3s.

Thay each have their uses. The B&Ws, which I guess would not be considered "real" monitors by some standards, are really starting to grow on me :)

I use imaginary monitors. Theres a ton of them here, and you can switch between which ones you like without touching a button!!

Honestly, I currently do not have "real" monitors. I do my mixing generally on a combination of computer speakers and headphones. I then check them in the car, as thats where most of my listening is done so I have a good idea of how things should sound in my car.

That said, I really really want some better speakers to mix on. The PC speakers just don't cut it. The bass is muddy (2.1 setup), the highs are not very bright. Also the speakers really fatigue the ears after listening at reasonable levels for a while. Something with a better, flatter frequency response where I can actually hear what is going on would be awesome.

Don't have any monitors yet...just a Creative 5.1 surround sound system. I unplugged the 2 rear speakers and kept the front ones, set them up as 'stereo desktop speakers' and turned off the bass boost.

I guess that's the best I can do for now. :(

built a sound system

well, i know this is probably a sutpid thing to do, but i took a pretty decent reciever, hooked it up to six floor speakers in my live room, and... hooked that up to my reciever, it gives me pretty decent sound, although the sound quality is probably lacking that of true studio monitors.

I'll play. Im probably gonna get slammed for my monitors, but I think they sound great. And what I mix on them translates very well to other platforms. My control room speakers are Behringer Truths 2031A's (Ok let me have it ). I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD600's, Sennheiser HD280's I use the three mentioned for mixing. During my "mastering process", I use the above mentioned and I use my Polk Monitor 10's which I use a Sansui 9090DB Receiver to power (flat settings). This vintage combo sounds fantastic. They dont make stuff like they use too. I also use a set of Klipsch 3.1's and Altec Lansing 3.1's. I use to play the mix in my car, but have learned if it translates well on all the others, its gonna be ok in the car.

Event 20/20s powered by a Behringer A500 amp. Love em! I love them even more now that I have my room treated.

I am now sure that my mixes suck because I have no talent and not because I can't hear properly.:(

I use ipod headphones and PC speakers. I'm a cheap bastard like that.

pair of JBL LSR4328P nearfields w/ Event 20/20 S250 Subwoofer.

then i use a pair of "bo-bo" sony speakers that are powered by the "game" input of a big "ghetto-blaster" boom-box thingie for secondary reference.
the mix will sound like poop on the sony "bo-bo" set-up way before i hear it on the JBL/Event monitoring scheme.

BTW: i have a set of Event 20/20P in boxes just hanging around if someone is interested.

I'm using PC speakers for now, I'm afraid. Gonna have to wait until a good deal comes along...maybe some used monitors.

I use a combination of studio headphones and my 2.1 pc speaker system!

I'm not posh!;

I've been using a mixture between iPod headphones, Beringer (cheap) headphones and some desktop speakers from ASDA/WALLMART.

The sound between all was (as you can expect) so inconsistent that you may as well be mixing stuff in mute.

Just splashed out on some Yamaha HS50s for my small mixing room at home. Love the "if it sounds good on these it'll sound good on anything" side of the HS50s. Makes good mixes even achievable for a newb like myself! (hopefully) :D

mackie hr 624s and sennheizer hd 600 headphones + speaker emulation off my tascam dm24 + 2 more very cool tricks up my sleve. A good boom box with line in where I can set standard home stereo eq curves + and this is a industry professional secrete. A pair of mac pro basic white computer speakers. I've taken them with me in rooms with ns 10s and genelic 10,000 dollar monitoring chains to make sure things translate and if you want to be absolutly sure 20 dollar ear buds and a car stereo added to the monitoring chain :D

watch the price of these crappy mac pro speakers sky rocket on ebay now

Sansui 9090DB
Wow, out of sheer boredom I came back to this moldy thread to see what people were still talking about, and I wind up having an acid flashback!:p

Man, I actually remember that big ol' boat anchor of a receiver. It was definitely one of THE receivers to have - what would that have been, late 70s-1980?

Thanks for pulling that dusty memory out of the cobwebbed recesses of my brain. :)

I have some Fostexmonitors, but I dont think theyre very accurate. I burn to disc and listen in my car and some levels sound much higher in my car. Maybe its because my car has a sound system. Who knows.
