Hello,

Im just starting out in the world of home recording - and obvousily need to buy some monitors, headphones & a decent insturment mic.

In terms of the mic - i have thought about a Shure SM57 - iv used 1 of these before and i think there great for recording acousitcally - just not sure about micing amps up though.

The big question however is what monitors and headphones to buy.....

I have a decent budget of around £ 200 for the monitors and £65 for the headphones.....

Thanks

I'm not exact about the conversion rate on currency, but I think for around that price you could look into some Sennheiser HD280 Headphones, and for monitors you will probably be best getting some with at least a 6" speaker, and will likely be cheaper to get active monitors instead of passive (active have the amp built in). You might look into some of the KRKs... also, for a very low price you can get some Behringer 2031a monitors. They've got tons of power, and sound pretty good (for the price). They may be one of your best bets.

As for the SM57, it will likely do better on cabs than it will on acoustics, so it's probably a safe bet for a first mic.
