monitors for mixdown

i have not yet started using computer recording software, i am presently trying to figure out how to budget my money in order to get a descent setup. it seems to me that the regular computer speakers that i have would hinder the mixdown seeing as they are pretty cheap, and i was wondering if it is even possible to connect better speakers maybe through the outs of the interface, and if so, is it necessary.
 
Yes... you'll need better monitors. But what's your interface?

Sure... if you're on a budget ($200-ish),... check out maybe the M-Audio Studiophiles. You can run 'em right out of your layla.

If you have more than $450 or so to spend, then you have quite a few more options to choose from.
