For those of you have more than one set of monitors . . .
Do you ever find yourself using different monitors for different elements of a mix?
I'll give you an example: I have a pair of monitors that I happen to think sound simply badass on electric guitars -- dirty, heavy, clean, you name it. My electric guitar mixes always translate extremely well to just about all systems when I use them to monitor.
I also have a different set that I recently began using almost exclusively for bass and kick. They just seem to help translate the lows really well to many different systems, and I've noticed an improvement in my mixes as a result.
Does anyone out there use different monitors for different tasks, or use a similar approach? What kinds of monitors are you using, and more specifically, have you found anything that works particularly well on translating vocals? That's kind of a trickier area for me.
