Hi.i really hope you guys can help me,I have a fostex 812 mixer, its 12 channel with 8 busses and is wired up to a 8 track tsr.recording is fine but when i play back the first 2 tracks i recorded i can monitor them with my head phones but then when i arm the 3rd track ready to record i cant get a headphone mix with the 3rd track along with the other to tracks. Is their a way to here myself record track 3 as well as listening to the first 2 tracks all in my head phones. The headphones are plugged into the mixer,do i need to run a amp from the monitor out and use my head phones through that, sorry to go on but its doing my head in.i have uploaded a picture in case it helps.

You have this set up to listen to what is coming out of the recorder. you need to hit the flip switch on channel 3 so you are listening to what you are playing not what is coming out of the deck

fostex mixer

Cheers for that, but i cant find a switch that does that, any ideas what it would say.If only i could get a manual for it,but its not through the lack of trying. Will the switch actually be on the track 3rd strip,
thanks again

Is that a recording board, or a live board? (a recording board will have separate tape return inputs) What do you have plugged into channel 3?

I have a Fostex 450 8 channel 4 buss mixer, What I do is route my outputs from my computer to channel 1&2 the new signal to channel 3 then with the faders up on channel 1,2&3 I route channel 1&2 to buss 1-2 and turn the faders down on buss 1-2, channel 3 is routed to buss 3-4 with the faders up on buss 3-4 the master out only returns the signal from channel 3 to the computer for recording but I can hear channel 1&2 in the mix, my headphones are pluged into the mixer using the head phone volume nob the crank it up. on the 450 each cannel strip only can be routed to buss 1 & 2 or 3 & 4, I dont know how your busses work on yours because you have 8

I hope this helps out, repost and let me know ;)
By the way, Nice mixer...

You may want to make sure no channels are solo'd on the board. Otherwise, set up a monitor send and assign it to you headphone cue using the AUX/MON on each channel. Ideally you should be monitoring full-on from the board using the returns (outs) from your tape machine. Your headphone out should be assignable main or mon/CR.
