Well just when I thought I was getting somewhere. I turned my M-Audio monitors on and the right one was making a terrible noise. When I started playing music through it the right one was very loud and the left one was very low. I tried to turn the volume down on the right one and the volume knob did not work? This started last night. After approx. 10 minutes I turned the volume knob all the way up and then back down quickly and the thing started working right?
Basically what is happening is you have to mess with the volume knob or just turn them on and wait approx. 10 minutes and then they start working right. I plugged them into the MR-8 (they were plugged to my pc) to see if it was the monitors or the source and they did the same thing. At least I got them from musician's friend and they take returns with no hassle.
I think I'm gonna take them apart anyway and see what I can see.

I don't think I would take them apart. Let MF change em out for you. If you take em apart, MF might not want to exchange them.

I agree with bdbdbuck, just send them back. I'ts probably a problem with with the potentiometer, but why bother. They were a scratch and dent buy if my memory serves me right. Best to get MF to send you a new pair.

I believe that is what I will do. It's funny, I can turn them on and go do something else for ten minutes and come back and they work fine. But I can't just turn them on and start anything right then.

That sounds weird.....there may be a component inside that has come loose and once it has arc'd long enough it makes a good contact....what do I know?

Well I've got my return authorization # from Musician's Friend and am returning the monitors. What's more when speaking to the gentleman about exchanging them he noticed that I had a $77 credit on my account that I didn't know about. So I got the new monitors (the ones that are not working properly are blems) for $128.00.

Too cool! Best $77 you ever spent that you didn't know you had? When did they expect you would have your new monitors?

Even at $199 these monitors are a really good deal for newbies like ourselves. I hope your troubles are all over when you get the new pair. They seem like they are really well constructed and should last you for a long time.

3 business days. I'm keeping the blems until I get the new ones then shipping them back. Of course they pay the shipping.

Man, that's the way everyone should do business! How smooth would that be?

That's what I've always like about Musician's Friend. Especially since the closest "decent" gear store around is about 60 miles away.

I hear so many negative comments on these boards about MF that it's nice to hear something positive. It's the same with guitar center. What's with that? I have always had great experiences in GC stores. Before they came along equipment prices were way out of line.

Folks want to tell the world when they feel that a business has ripped them off or done them wrong. They expect to get good fair treatment so they don't go around telling everyone.
