Recording Modus Operandi
I have 2, Fender1275XPs: 15" two-way, 400W peak / 200W program @ 16 ohms monitors. I also have an old Peavey 260H monitor amplifier which says 400 watts and surrounding the speaker outputs it says 130 watts @ 4 ohms. Can I drive the fender monitors with that amp?

Unfortunately I can't help you with your question NYMorningstar, I was actually wondering if you were the "Morningstar" who was present on the Digitech RP boards a couple of years back?

Cheers

No, sorry Armistice but that was not me. Still looking for an answer though if anyone would lend a hand, thank you.

If my math is right, the Peavy amp that says 130 watts at 4 ohms would deliver 65 watts at 8 ohms and put out only 32.5 watts at 16 ohms. So, if all you have is 16 ohm speakers, the amp isn't gonna exactly blast them with power. Is this live PA gear that you are trying to use as recording nearfield monitors? Stage gear usually translates poorly to recording use. Most recording monitors will be 8 ohm loads and 50-100 watts per channel RMS is usually enough power for most typical home recording applications.

Thanks for the reply Tom. These monitors are for live on stage sound. I wish you didn't say if :). Another thing I'm confused about is whether the 1/4" outputs for the speakers would be considered in series or paralell. I'm guessing it's parallel so would two 16 ohm speakers require an 8 ohm output? Assuming your correct would this be a bad set up and burn up the amp or fry the speakers?
