The not fountain head
Hello all.

I have done extensive reading on the subject of monitor placement. Somewhere in all that text, I remember reading something along the lines of :

"Some monitors should be pointed directly at your ears. Others should be pointed directly forward. Check your manual for details."

Problem is, my manual doesn't specify. Thoughts?

They are Roland DS-30A's (near-field).

DS-30A info @ Roland's site

Thanks all! :)

just create an equilateral triangle with the monitors and yourself, pointed at your head. can't go far wrong with that setup. oh and try to get the tweeters at ear level.

I can't believe I have found someone else who actually has Roland near field monitors!

I have the Roland DS-5's. :)

Lol.. We should start a club or somethin' (and charge membership fees... then use that money to buy Genelecs) :)

Sounds good peritus, so far I am pleased with my Rolands but then I have not owned any other monitors! :)

Actually,

you'll do better if you have that equilateral triangle shoot to a point about 16" behind the center of your ears.

This creates a slightly better stereo image - with the left and right speakers just brushing those ears.......

So the 60 degree thing is still valid though?... We're basically saying that the dimensions of the triangle are increased a small amount (to put the center point further back in the room than in the following pic?)...

My manual said to triangulate them. It actually gave accouple of diagrams. Check that.
