Hi again all, I have $400 to spend on monitors, i am considering either KRK Rokit rp6's or Alesis M1 Mk2's or possibly Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2a's???

Which of these three should I go for, i'm thinking of ordering from jrrshop.com cos they will ship to Ireland for free, anybody ever get a chance to compare??

There are not any monitors stocked in town to compare with each other, apart from a pair of m1's which are selling for about $700, so really i have no choice but to buy blind.

All suggestions welcome, except ones along the lines of "hey if you sold your kidney and your corneas you could buy a WAAAY better pair", money is a large large object at this point

compared the knobs and switches, front ports vs rear ports...yet?

maybe this will help you decide. difference in the minor details.

so these are your only options locally?

I checked out some Tapco S5's, very inpressive for the cash. Not a lot of real lows but that's not an issue for me because I have a tiny control room. ;)

I also checked out the Wharfedales but wasn't keen at all. I'm going to try the Rk6 this week but I think it's a shoot out between those and the Tapco for me.

Good short list though. Just type any of the names into the search and you'll be swamped with people loving all of them!

I picked up a pair of Event PS6 monitors off ebay for about $300. They're very honest.

I'm using Event 20/20 passives with a Hafler TA1600 amp. Total package ran me $300 (I got the speakers used). They sound great, tons of clarity and detailed top end without harshness, a little light in the bass, but otherwise fantastic monitors.

Has anyone checked out the Event TR6's yet? They are way up on my list but nowhere demo's them near me... A lot of cash to spend based on reviews!!!

don't know the tr6's, but event is generally a good reliable company.

After the Behringers went bang I could do with some reliability! ;)

-Find a store that has each pair in stock.
-Ask them to set them up in a listening room right next to each other.
-Take a CD of your material and some commercial stuff you know well.
-Listen, at varying levels, to each carefully with a proper A/B comparison.
-Buy your favourites.
-Go home happy.

I tried tha. I arranged to hear 5 pairs of monitors, went in on my day off (as arranged) and they only had one in... and they were naff!

They said they will be getting them in soon, until then I'm left hanging. :(

Small update... My wonderful girlfriend got a store card for me and encouraged me to 'invest' in the studio.

I am now the very smug owner of a pair of Mackie HR624's... THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

AND they translate perfectly.

*** sorry to be so smug but I'm dead chuffed! :p

If money is a real issue look at some quality boom boxes. The right one can be an lower cost alternative if cost is a concern. My small one gives surprisingly good results.

oh yeah... the 6", probably is a better fit and a bit tighter bass than the 8"Driver..at least at closer range.

sounds like you picked them up, no shipping?
thats nice...

yeah, i'd guess you accomplished your "reliability" issue too.

if you ever need more bass, you can add a sub. if you need the Movie Explosion mixes or some of that Heavy FartRap bass that just rumbles....

i hear it all the time, geez i'm burnt out..if i hear another year of rappers...

its like in Beatlemania...everyone started copying hair style, the suits...
Rap's the same...they all have the frkn BIG METAL MERCEDES CHAIN, the SIDEWAYS HAT...BAGGY CLOTHES...and complain about how hard it is.

i guess its the fakes, the thrid and fourth wave of the same sht....

C'mon people go do something new. Motown revisited would be welcome..
something anything...i'm sick of the rap!
next it'll be Country Rap...

LMAO! :D

You're right, no shipping. Just walked in and back out with them (I live 5 minutes from the music store!).

Got them stupidly cheap too... £600! Ok that's still a heck of a lot of money but these things are awesome! ;)
