Monitor Basics

Im new to recording and have been advised to get a monitor to aid my recording. Its just that sometimes I see "Sold in Pairs" - are monitors always sold in pairs or do I need to be extra careful? I'm interested in getting a Yorkville monitor - does anyone know of a good online retailer operating in the UK?.
 
A lot of times you'll see prices for monitors (the Mackies come to mind) only for one. Definately be sure that quoted prices are for a pair. By the way, I use the Yorkies and am very happy with them
 
Yeah the Yorkvilles are a decent monitor.. I use them and I use my NS-10's.....

I seem to use the Yamaha NS-10's alot more though
 
Since you need 5 monitors to do surround work most are available as singles these days.

THe problem for me is that im in ireland and I cant fint any U.K. websites that sell Yorkville ( and ive no idea of whats involved when importing from the U.S.)
