Sigh. Bite the bullet time. Am I right in thinking that just about any amplifier will do for monitors? I'm thinking about Alesis monitors, but the amp they flog with it costs far too much for my root beer budget. Not that I don't like root beer, mind you.

If I could buy a second-hand amplifier for $100, I'd do it as long as it powered the monitors okay and didn't produce crappy sound. I'm new to all this, but it seems to me that an amp produces power, not signal, and so a cheapo amp won't color the sound of the monitors. Or is that just newbie delusion? (Good name for a song - "Newbie Delusion").

Show me the exit
From all this confusion
I thought you loved me
That was newbie delusion

:)

A power amp will add to your total observed noise unless it's a pretty clean amp. Even those high-priced high-powered Haflers have some hum that only goes away when you crank the volume. They sound really clean only relative to the high SPLs they produce with your monitors. I'm convinced I get sufficient flatness and detail with a $150 consumer receiver and Event 20/20 passive monitors.

Don't need a scorecard
To count my contusions
Just lead me away from
Your Newbie Delusions

I chose a D9/C9/Bb9/C9 pattern to go with these lyrics.

(slower tempo here and change)
Remember those Sundays in your Daddys garage
You were the Musky and I was the Frog
Ain't got no time for this silly facade
the super bowl is on

(would Am and G work on this, I don't have my guitar with me)

"You were the musky and I was the frog"? With lyrics like that, federal laws won't have to worry about keeping the kids off this page - they'll like the song as much as the adults and still have every last one of their tender sensibilities unassailed by the likes of you and me. Win/win. :)

Well....maybe it could be kind of like a Disney type... uhh...movie thing...were this nice little musky and a mean old frog meet and become friends....and...uhhhh....save a fleet of transports in the northern atlantic from becoming torpedoed in WWII, or (I guess it would have be lake funnyhorse in northern wisconson or something like that, since muskys are fresh water fishes) maybe they just grow feet and clean up the garage, and then, then, yeah, then because the old mean frog likes sports (I haven't watched much since the late 70's) he has to leave the musky fish friend and go inside to watch the super bowl with a bowl of flies and some root beer. At this point their friendship becomes damaged because of froggys need for watching sports is more important than cleaning out the garage with nice little musky friend. I can't think of an ending though....
Thats what I really sort of meant...I think.
