Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here, I've done searches but though it wouldn't hurt anyone too bad if I asked for specific advice. If this is the wrong forum, please feel free to move this.

Have been mixing on Allessandro phones, but I know I should step into the real world of mixing with monitors if I want my music (which is absolutely brilliant, outstanding, exquisite, etc.) too reach the ears of others (apart from my girlfriend, who thinks I'm cool, but hey).

Okay, so I'm on a budget. €400 is about what I can handle, €500 at the most if it's really good value.

I've been looking at the Event 20/20 passives. I understand the actives are highly recommended. Would I get anything comparable by using the passives along with my hifi amp? I have an old Arcam Alpha 6 plus that's pretty good (even after having a bucket of soap water poured into it by accident).

What I'm sceptical about is if it's powerful enough to drive the monitors? It's rated at '50wpc minimum into 8 ohms'. I'm at a loss as to how this translates into anything - I have a certain technophobia, I hope you will bear with me/my ignorance.

Should I rather get an active set of monitors?

Input will be much appreciated.

I use active M-Audio BX5's. They are sweet. Active is for me as I don't want external power hanging around everywhere.

I use the Roland DS/5s which are Active Monitors, the Rolands apparently didn't place too well in a monitor shootout, but I use a Boss BR1600 CDR digital 16 track recorder which is suited to the Roland DS series monitors.

I agree with Monkey.

Active monitors are the way to go if you are not sure of the capacity of your amp to run certain types of monitors.

GET ACTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D
