Money to spend...

Hey everybody, i just came about acouple hundred bucks and i want to buy either a compressor or a mic tube pre.

right now i'm running an apex 435 condenser into behringer ub1002 mixer w/built in mic pre. Mixer then goes into computer.

What would help most in getting a nice vocal track, the compressor or the mic pre?
And which would be most practical?

Also does anybody have good experiences with cheaper equipment they would wanna recommend?

I say you just get a new pre, and use a software compressor. Mabye buy a nice plug in.
