Somebodys gotta stop me, because I just bought another one. This time, the Yamaha DG Stomp. By the way, GC is blowing them out for $139 right now. And I just got the Genesis 3 a couple weeks ago--shame on me!

Anyway, after two nights, I think the Stomp might be my favorite of the bunch for what I require. When I play live I have three tones I use--a clean, a crunch and a heavy overdrive. Good thing because a bank on this unit only holds three patches--even though there are 90 slots. This one sounds the closest to a real amp so far to my ear.

I'm not gonna get into a rant like "the Stomp blows away X modeler" because that is plain stupid. I've owned a Pod, a V-Amp, J-Station, Genesis 3, Boss GT3 and now this Yamaha DG. All of them have certain strengths and weakness. Depending on what you are looking for, you might use one or the other. I don't play heavy metal or other music with gonzo distortion, so the Stomp works well for me. I don't know if it excels at those kinds of tones. I actually need a day to program it and see what I find.

I think when I get an hour or two to spare, I will lay down a simple track and do a verse with each modeler I have--just for sake of comparison. The proof will be in the pudding and we can see how each stacks up against the other.

If you are looking for a modeler and you are into clean, crunch and overdrive sounds, this box is a great deal. Its a tank and the sounds are very high quality. Meanwhile, if they issue another modeler, please don't tell me about it. I have to stop sometime.

I've had a DG Stomp for a few years (since not long after they came out, I guess), and felt at the time that it was the best sounding. In some ways it may be a little less flexible than other modelers, but I think it does the sounds it has VERY well. I agree, it's medium gain and crunch sounds are outstanding, and its sensitivity to dynamics in playing was unmatched in other modelers when I played with them.

At $139 it's a STEAL.

I realize this is an old thread crawdad,but I am looking for ONE of what you've got.LOL.I would like to go with the j-station based solely on it's digital output matching up with the digital input on my Fostex VF 16 recorder.I know it's probably a bad idea to bank everything on that digital output.

What kind of success have you had RECORDING with any of the units you own?Im not into the live thing that much anymore so that wont even play into the equasion.I just want a quality piece of gear to use for digital recording.Do you wanna get rid of any of the ones you own?

I have a Digitech GNX3. I am thinking of going with something else. I use the digital spdif out and everything loses its warmth and dynamics. It does some modeling very well but it has a butt load of FX that I would never use. I don't want a robotic guitar!! LOL. I would go with the Boss Gt-6 or even Behringer V-amp PRO. The V-amp has amazing sounds and very close the Line-6 POD series.
