For audio yes. An integrated video chip can drasticly reduce your troubleshooting options. An integrated audio chip can interfere with drivers for your prosumer audio card even when disabled (I've been there).

Best bet is to get a bare MOBO and get only the options you want on it installed.

I'm not saying it can't be done...jsut better not to if the choice is there.
 
I am a PC hobbiest sort of, and have built many a PC, I hate anything integrated. I agree, the less onboard the better, I have a PC with AC97 and have disabled it from the bios and thank goodness no problems. Some time the bios isn't so friendly, My brother's Dell doesn't have as many options in the bios that are obvious for the timid tweaker.

ps my buddy here says not to listen to me as my pc sounds like a jet engine and he says Go MAC,
