I'm (starting) the research to build a new computer for recording only. Last system I built ws an AMD XP1500 when they hd just come out, so it's been a while and I haven't kept up with chipsets/processors/memory etc.
I tend to lean towards AMD, but my initial reading shows that a P4 might be the way to go.
I'll be using an Aardvark Pro Q10 and Cubase SX 2.0.
I'm searching the threads but the amount of info is almost overwhelming. I just bought my wife a new Dell P4 2.4GHz, 256MB, 80GB, WinXP system for $470. I'm almost tempted to try it out first.
Any suggestions on a motherboard or chipset for either AMD or Intel? I'm looking for stability first off and value next. I'm not planning to do RAID or anything like that, but SATA might be in the picture. Still not sure if the performance is there for these audio applications.
