Greetings folks, a humble newbie is seeking your advice.

I've been lurking for a few months, hanging out in a few studios, trying to decide what I need.

Right now the goal is to build a PC system to accomodate Digi 001 and Pro Tools LE.

What I'm looking for is some feedback on ideal motherboards and processors for the system, as well as hard drives. I'd say for the entire system (aside from the digi, monitors and a mic) I can spend about $800 - $1000.

I know I could go the mac route, but based on my finances and what I want to do with this system, I think PC is the better option for me.

I'll mainly be using the system for hip-hop, recording my basic tracks at home and taking them into a studio to put the finishing touches on there.

A buddy of mine uses pro tools le with a pIII 800 mhz. and an ASUS mobo with the 815e chipset. Although you can probably splurge a little on the CPU and get a 1gig or better and at least 512mb of RAM.
Try and go with a 7200rpm drive, I would reccommend 2 of em, one dedicated to audio. 40-60gig each would be sufficient.
Maxtor, IBM, Western Digital, any one of these would be fine.

I would look no further than the Digidesign compatibility web page. they tell you everything you need to know about what will work with their systems.

That's one of the main things I like about them.
