Has anybody already upgrated the DAW to Athlon 64 939chipset?
If so , have you tried ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard?

I went to computer show the other day and there was a good deal for Athlon 64 3200 and ASUS A8V Deluxe. I got the phone number from that guy so I can make a deal for about $300 and Kingston DDR 3200 512M for $60

I'd appreciate any coments.

Thanks.

I'm about to upgrade to an S939 AMD64 and have been doing a ton of research. The two most recommended motherboards would be the Asus that you mention and the MSI K8N Neo Platinum. Google for those two and you'll find a lot of comparisons and a hundred different opinions. The general consensus seems to be that the MSI is better for overclocking, and the Asus more stable.

I've chosen the Asus for two reasons:

1. I'm a silencing enthusiast and the MSI has a northbridge fan that would need removed and heatsinked.
2. My local vendor has the Asus but not the MSI.

I've always built machines using Asus stuff, and haven't been burnt yet. They have good driver support, and run nice and stable. Also, they generally don't have chipset fans, like the MSI's sometimes do (as was mentioned).

Even though they're a bit more than other brands, I ain't gonna fix it, if it ain't broke.

Even for my inlaws' new computer, I chose an Asus board with onboard AGP, a Sempron 2400+, and some cheap Kingston RAM with an Antec case. Still a very affordable computer that I know I won't be getting calls about stability with.

I've already upgraded my DAW to Athlon64. As a matter of fact, I just built a new machine.
ASUS A8V mobo
Athlon 64 3200
Kingston KVR400X64C3A/ 512 (recommended by ASUS)
Zalman CPU fan
Antec Sonata (black)

Two quiet HD:
IDE Seagate Baracuda 80G
IDE Seagate Baracude 120G

Belkin Firewire PCI Card (Slot 3 on MOBO)

I don't have any Audio PCI devices in my DAW. I'm using Mackie Onyx 1220 with firewire option card.

I was recording two days straight. So far no problem at all!
Some guys suggested to switch to WD Raptor RAID 0... Probably it's a good ideya, but my budget is not ready for that kind of upgrade...
And yet, I did some research, and some experienced guys said that th RAID was not always good for Audio, it breaks the Audio file into peaces , etc... May be I'm not technicaly accurate, but that's what I heard...
And again, I can be wrong

Peace.

RAID 0 is good for disk transfer speed, but cuts reliability in half; i.e. you lose one drive, you lose the information on both drives.

I've read that RAID 0 arrays are only really worthwhile if you're dealing with really big files, such as video or huge raw images.

I've been researching my planned system for about three months and it's been a steep learning curve!
