Hi all, wanting to get into some home recording. I would like an external sound card, and was thinking between the aadrvark Direct Mix USB3 and M-Audio MobilePre USB. Does anyone have advice on either? Im basically looking to get a mic and play guitar, then later record vocals and then put them together with software...Which one would be better? Are there any others which I should know about? Both seem pretty neat, and have some attempts at on board pre amps; but I dont think they support phantom power; a dynamic mic should give pretty good sound, such as shure 57 for both the guitar and vocals (not simultaenously?) Much thanks for everything

aw jeez, I was about to ask the exact same question. Is there anyone out there with some insight or an opinion?

I can't compare the two, but I do own a MobilePre. For what it is and what it costs I can't find any faults with it. Some have had problems setting it up, but I had no problems at all with Windows XP.

The preamps are decent, nothing great, but also not that bad considering the price. I've recorded using both channels at the same time with phantom power on each one and had no problems. It should be fine for what you're wanting to do.
