You know, at $79 including spider shock mount, I figured that I could use it as a doorstop if nothing else...

I read everything on this board and elsewhere. I've got a pretty fair home studio with a SoundCraft 40x8, Mackie 24x8, Adats, HD24, Masterlink, blah blah blah...
For serious projects I've borrowed or rented some Neumans in the past. I've got a original AKG C3000 as well as the usual array of Shure, and Audio Technica mics.

I opened the box and was impressed by the weight and build quality. The spider shock mount is surprisingly well built. I put this on a studio boom and plugged her into a channel strip. Ok... it is not a U87;) ....but folks, this is an amazing bargain for $79. This is a bright, airy mic. I absolutely detest the "gee whiz, my korean knock of a PRS for $199 blows away your $3000 guitar" type reviews that I see on Harmony Central, and this is not one of them. Heck, I'm in my fifties and not easily impressed. Maybe my mic was given some extra magic dust? It is not a Neuman but when compared with vocals done on a TLM 193 it holds its own. This leaves me scratching my head. Is the Neuman a $1000 better? Hmm. I'm doing a session Saturday. I'm going to put this mic up and let them give it a go.

FYI, the V63M is a specal edition MXL1006 made for Mars Music Which is now defunct, below is Where Brent Casey clears up info I thought was cool.

The V67 is modeled on a very stripped-down single pattern version of a U87i. The 1006 is based on the V67 with the output circuit of the MXL2003 in order to eliminate the output transformer.
The 414 is a completely different animal from top to bottom."
