How many of you mix your own music or do you have someone else mix it ?

i ask because the biggest mistake most home recordings have is that most of if not all people dont mix there music properly

I write/record/mix/master/produce my own music..........Basically I never pay anyone to do something I can do(or learn to do) myself..............so unless it is some super-human task, I will just do it myself instead of paying somebody:D :D :D :D

I mix a lot of my stuff but I call on fulltime engineers from time to time. An objective ear is always good.

I mix most of my stuff.... Certain projects I will let some of my engineer buddies mix if my clients have the money to pay em....

But if money is an issue I will do it all.... But if there is a budget involved I get specialist involved as much as possible.....

Can't be a master at everything......

I mix and mastered a all of my older stuff. I learned my lesson when i kept knit picking over a mastering job and the sound came out low and a little thin. I will continue to mix everthing down myself but i will only master the singles and quick underground projects. Too much time and money wil be invested in the bigger projects for me to drop the ball in the end. I will let someone else do it for their fresh approach but they'll really, really have to do a much better job then I could do.

I try not mix my MIDI music , but any live material i record i will mix
i havent tried mastering yet (i dont think my ears are that good)

right now i let engineers mix it & then i come back & mix a copy to try & get it as close to theirs as possible so eventually i want have to pay anyone else!!

holla

I am mix all my stuff, and I am working on mastering it. I been reading so much stuff and notice I am developing an ear for this so I am doing it all the the time. But what I will do is give a song to someone I know is a professional mixing engineer, then mix it myself and see if we come out with the same output or close.
