Haha...compress a whole mix because of a few kick drums that would be like 18dB louder than any others in the song. That is just RICH info! LOL

Ed. What are you doing?

I'm beginning to understand why you keep getting kicked off the board. You're starting to behave like Father Time here. Props for your skills, man, but this is ridiculous and you know it.

Did he get banned again? I can't see his posts anymore, just other people quoting him.

Uh oh, I think you're right.

Dang it man! Can't we all just get along? :(

[chanting]"More Mixerman, more Mixerman!" :D

Ed I know you sort of from you playing guitar on Fading, and PM's n stuff, but what are you doing is a good question.

I mean this in the friendliest way possible. You seriously need to step back and tone it down. This behavior is only going to lead you back to one place.

Anyway, Mixerman is alledged to be some big time pro engineering genius, so really, I don't feel I need to baby step him along to understand what I am talking about. He is missing what I am talking about, and that is that.

Most of the rest of you are just jumping on the band wagon of of finding fault ONLY on my end. LOL Typical of this place, and not unexpected! If it was any other newbie fuck arguing with me on this, y'all would be "Hey newbie fuck, you don't know shit to be arguing with sonusman on that". ;) Really, that is the way it would play out.

BUT, y'all think you got some famous guy on hand here who you wanna suck his dick or something. Whatever. Mixerman is just some username who we have NO idea who the real person behind it is. To me, he is just another newbie who didn't take the time to read, nor ask for clarification when he didn't understand what I was talking about. Whatever.

Compress a whole mix for a few kick drum hits! Again, that is RICH. LOL

Perhaps I can help you express this sentiment with a bit more economy.

Two dogs are in a room. One is reading on the couch and the other is typing on a computer. The dog on the computer turns to the dog on the couch and says:

"Hey! On the internet, no one knows you're a dog!"

Compress a whole mix for a few kick drum hits! Again, that is RICH. LOL

I compress most rock productions as a matter of course. A good dose of stereo compression does indeed control kik drums. A stereo buss compressor's purpose is to control the bottom of the mix.

The bottom of a mix is what separates the men from the boys. Or the dogs from the men, as it were.

Enjoy,

Mixerman

:D Guys, I've been pondering this weighty subject matter at great length since it's surfaced. I've spent countless hours pondering the pros and cons of it all ... and I've come to a decision on this. Considering the worst-case scenario: for one tiny fraction of a second there might be a barely-perceptible artifact from over working the mastering limiter at that particular point in the song. Or maybe one guy might be listening someday and say: "Ya know, that's a great song, but at 40 seconds in, there's this kick that sounds a little loud."

For that reason, I'm afraid I have to side with Ed on this one. Just zoom in on that bugger and bring it down. Sorry mix. I realize you know way more about this stuff than I ... but I think your method is a little lazy. :D C'mon, Mix. What are you paying DJ Fast Fingaz for anyway? Isn't he supposed to do all that stuff for you? Maybe if you spent less time relieving yourself on his parka, he'd volume-envelope that kick hit for you.

I do know who the real person is behind the Mixerman name. He DOES make a lot of money just doing mixes for some pretty famous artists. And as I said before, we used him for an album we recorded here; he's expensive, but worth every dime of it.

If any of you don't wanna listen to what he has to say, it's your loss, not his.

Perhaps his point is that anybody could sign up with the mixerman user name, but this particular fella has had that name since 2002, so it seems unlikely it's anybody else.

Please show us the way to a great bottom-end!!

And please ignore the bitter asswipes and trolls who like to talk smack. I'm certain that 99% of the people posting and browsing this forum would love to hear any advice you are willing to offer.
