Here's my situation. I live in an basement apartment that is considerably large and wide open. My workstation is within this room but obviously I have an issue with dealing with the whole room. Last night, I was working on something in Pro Tools while my wife was making dinner, she's whistling and what not and even in headphones, I'm distracted. So I have two options; Move my workstation in to a storage room, or build some type of a temporary room in the apartment. There are plus' and neg's to each option. I would obviously receive the most isolation in the storage room but it smells like feces every once in a while and during the summer, it gets really hot. If I were to build some type of a temporary room in the actual apartment, I wouldn't have to put my equipment in a stinky, hot room. I was thinking I'd build like a cubical in the apt if I were to go that route. What would you do?

....a ball gag would be cheaper. That would take care of the whistling.

Any temporary thing you build is not going to work. To do it right would take lots of money, time, effort, and would be permanent. You best bet is to save up and move elsewhere. Somewhere that lends itself to more privacy (a place with separate rooms).

"Considerably large and wide open" is way better for audio purposes than small, hot and stuffy.

Stay where you are.

If other noises distract you, save doing stuff until the source is elsewhere. Or work out a compromise and come to an arrangement. Or learn to deal with it.
