I see you're new here. Welcome!

Try the search function. Your question has been asked here and many other places. A simple search could probably reveal some good insight for your concern. There is also a newbie section of the forum and hip hop/rap section that might be some good places to check out if you're new.

Good luck, Eric;)

so just that one effect will make it sound pro?

You really think it's that easy? All it takes is one preset. Go ahead and try and but if you asked me there is a whole lot more to what makes a professional recording.

So please don't ignore my advice. Use the search function and you'll see answers that have a little more clout.

Good luck.

well its like this...

Welcome to the forum and i appreciate you asking for help
But...
your question has been answered before but i wont rag on you for doing what comes natural and thats trying to find the fastest easiest answer you can without maximum hassle (not an insult i did it to).

What you must learn is ask the right question to recieve the right answers. Is there a preset to make things sound pro? Well that depends on the kinda pro you want. Do you want T-Pain pro or Celine Dion pro? Do you want Jay-Z pro or Mystikal pro? My point is this

1. Be specific in what you ask for becaus there are professionals on here who deal with these questions everyday who will grill you about these same specifics so if you give all the details the answer will come out smooth.

2. Don't just ask for a preset even though truth be told most presets are used in everyday studio environments but there are exceptions. I use presets from my favorite software becaus they hav great starting points that i build from but i also create my own presets becaus that how i work. Presets arent to give you the fast way there they are there to give you the right direction to get you on your way. If a preset helps you out in your specific situation then by all means use it abuse it but please learn what it is.

3. If all else fails go on youtube and watch how to videos till your head explodes lol. But seriously youtube has become my go to place and saving grace when im in a bind with a client or i need a (like you said) preset that my client or myself was looking for to perform a certain task. The important thing is you get the results your looking for and understand the steps you took to get them.

Me and all the homerecording family are here for you but be warned here and now that if you want to succeed you must put in the time and effort.

Back wen i was using my other name (rnb259) around here i asked some pretty great questions and this was b4 youtube. I also posted some great and insightful peices on alot of things you'll be scratching your head about in the next few months/years so get to searching man :p

Vocals typically have reverb delay and compression on them.

If your sample has a fair amount of reverb on it, you would want to put some reverb on your vocals so that it blends. You can add delay to add texture to it and a feeling of more "space", similar to what reverb would do.

Compression may be used to tame a rapper with poor dynamic control.

Do you know what all these things are? You can find very thorough articles explaining what these "signal processors" are and how they work. If you don't know words like reverb, delay, and compression, you have some reading to do.

With singing hooks, it's very typical now for autotune to be used heavily (at least on popular rap, as im unfamiliar with less popular rap music).

Another common technique in rap vocals will be to double the end of lines. As in, record the ending of the vocal line a second time to add more oomph to that line.

And where can you get all these plug in's? Theyre all on pro tools other than auto tune. You can use the pro tools plug in's can give you a "pro" sound. You have to know how to use them. But the "pro" sound comes from a lot more than just a preset. It comes from the entire signal chain. That includes the performer, the content, the microphone, microphone choice, microphone placement cable, preamp, AD/DA converters, monitors, and mojo. Truth is, plug in's probably are a very small factor in a "pro" sound. Unless of course you're t-pain or whatever. You could never sound like him without a plug in. Which may even discredit him as a professional. But it sells and people like it so he rolls with it.

Good luck man. You have to get interested in what youre doing. The answers arent all black and white. Look up the answers. Look up the things I've noted. Understand them, then look further into everything else. You should be able to get something worthwhile with some practice.

That means you don't know what it is yet. So read more and learn how to use it.

That's good enough to start recording rap vocals with. It's your experience that is holding you back. Study those things and you'll be a step closer to recording "pro" vocals. This is a homerecording website. We typically don't expect to achieve pro results. Pro studios cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for a reason. Your studio costs 1% what a real studio does. I'm just trying to say, you can't expect pro results. But you can get good results with your gear so don't let me stop you.

ok...

Knowing what they are and how to use them is the arguement ok fine so the better question is have you takin my advice on watching youtube videos and learning about using these three wonderful sound toys. A favorite channel of mine is the homestudiocorner on youtube. Great info and everything you need to actually learn what your doing.

Oh and another thing...
Though its been already discussed you can get some pretty amazing resuls but...ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING...

Please dont take this as a threat or anything against you in anyway fam but take my advice please because ive been where u are and i wish to god i had someone saying thats like this or this will sound like this for this reason.
