Okay so now that i have my studio set back up & im on this site i wanted to get some good mixing tips....

What are some good presets & techniques to use in the area of mixing?? I know there is no one way or right answer to mixing but what do yall vets usually do when you mix down ya waves ?

I start with all faders down. Then turn up just the kick and get it sounding good. Then the bass and get it gelling with the kick, then the snare and/or lead vocal. All will be at the same level or volume because those are the main drivers of a rock song.

Then I bring in everything else as supporting tracks. Never let any of them be at the same level or louder than the kick, bass, snare or lead vocal. The one possible exception would be a lead solo instrument and it would only match the level of the lead vocal.

all in my humbled opinion....

peace,

I disagree with Chilli below. First thing is to load as many plugs as I have, set them to the "good mix" preset, then ya turn up the faders, doesn't matter how much cause ya got the "good preset" on every plug. dig!

OK, sorry for the sarcasm, but we see this a lot on here, and everybody is going to chime in and say no presets, you have to use your ears and learn.

It does help to study everything you can find about mixing because it's an art and no matter how good your mixes become they can always get better.

So here's my dirty little secret. I DO USE PRESETS. Yep boys and girls, that's right. When I have a new plug, I load a preset that has a name for what I want like "male vocal" or "acoustic guitar". I use it as a staring point. I then start tweaking and eventually I learn the plug enough that I can dial in my own thing.

Except when I use the "good mix" preset, that needs no tweeking!:D

Im looking all over but i can't find the "good mix" preset... where do i go or do i need to download it????

*sarcasm* lol

It's part of the Waves Pluto bundle. You get every plugin ever made, free updates until the year 2950, and all for just easy monthly payments of ONE MILLION DOLLAR!!!:D:D

I see you've found it and used it to create a stereo mix. Nice.....
