Hello all,

I am currently mixing a slow acoustic driven song with a busy piano track that just wants to take over the mix. Any tips on mixing piano. Eq starting points would be a great help.

Thanks much,

Chris-H

hard to say without hearing the song or the piano, but general principles might suggest some of the following options:

if the piano is in the way of the vocals, try dipping the piano a little around 400-500 hz to unmask the vocals.

try panning it to one side to get it out of the way of more important centrally panned instruments (or vocals).

if it's in the way of rhythm acoustic guitars or bass, you might want to roll off the low end.

use compression to tame startling transients that distract from the mood and to control it's overall level.

use reverb to set it farther back in the soundstage.

don't be afraid to edit out/mute sections where the piano clashes with other instruments.

Thanks for the suggestions Littledog. Gonna give them a shot.
