I would not recommend that approach. The purpose of tracking and mixing through good nearfield monitors is that you need monitors that do not color the sound much and are accurate in staging and imaging. Home stereo speakers tend to hype the sound particuarly in the high end and also usually have phase probs in their crossover regions. It is perfectly acceptable to use home loudspeakers as a reference for the mix created on studio nearfield monitors. Just be familiar with the type of source material on the system you use as a reference. I have Klipsch loudspeakers, and a Definitive Technologies sub as my home stereo drivers and would hate to mix on them. I have to give my ears a rest between the studio and living room or I am never thrilled.
